Yoga is for Everyone!

Yoga truly is for everyone, doesn’t matter what age or stage physically or mentally you are at.

These are my top 7 popular questions that I hear from yogis in waiting…

1. Can anyone do yoga?

Yes, absolutely anyone can do yoga. It doesn’t matter where you start physically or mentally. Yoga will only improve things for you.

2. Do I have to be flexible/bendy to do yoga?

No, everyone has to start somewhere, and by doing yoga regularly, you improve your flexibility. You really don’t have to start off flexible. As we get older our flexibility naturally decreases, so by doing yoga we can improve and keep our flexibility right into our older years.

3. Can I still do yoga with an injury or health condition?

Yes, as long as your GP has given you the all clear, you can do yoga. As yoga teachers we are trained to be mindful of injuries and medical conditions and will offer alternatives.. Just mention it to us beforehand so that we are aware and can keep you safe. More often than not yoga can help injury recovery or health conditions.

4. What happens if I am not as good as everyone else?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be. The beauty of yoga is that it is non competitive and non ego and everyone is allowed to be on their own individual journey. As long as you can see improvement over time then that is all that matters. As yoga teachers we will always give different stages to poses or alternatives so that you can continue to progress into poses at your own pace. Even if you have mastered a pose, there is always more you can do physically and mentally.

5. I just don’t have the time or energy to do yoga regularly, is it worth me doing it?

Now this is one I’ve come up against myself having two small children, so I can completely understand.

The good thing about yoga is that it will give you more energy and will make you feel better mentally once you have done it and you don’t have to do lots of it. Coming to a weekly class will take the pressure off having to come up with your own sequences and you’ll just be able to get into your zone. Just try and fit in a few extra bits here and there at home if you can. A few sun salutation and some mindful breathing go a long way.

6. Yoga just seems to be for women. It yoga for men as well?

Yes, absolutely. The benefits of yoga can be seen in both men and women and will improve you physically or mentally, doesn’t matter which sex you are.

7. Do I have to meditate or be spiritual?

No, and yoga is not a religion. By doing yoga you will develop mindfulness

and learn to still your mind which might set you off on your meditation

journey if that’s what you choose to do.
